One Week Itinerary For Honduras

April 19th, 2010 | 13 comments

Copan Ruins in Honduras

It’s two months away but I still have the urge to take out my backpack and starting packing. I’m eager to leave, eager to see and eager to live.  I can’t wait till I get on that plane to Honduras. I booked it for only $280! I’ve got my plate full working 50 hours a week, volunteering, studying for GMAT, researching grad schools and running random errands I don’t have time to do during the work week.

I haven’t had a chance to do much planning for Honduras. Although, experiences have taught me that things never go as planned when traveling. The best you can do is expect the worst and hope for the best but it’s always good to have a general outline.

So here’s my tentative one week itinerary for Honduras.

  • Saturday
    • 1PM – Land in Honduras
    • Take a bus to Lago de Yojoa
    • Check into a hostel/hotel
  • Sunday
    • Explore the Lago de Yojoa
  • Monday
    • Copan Ruins
  • Tuesday
    • Parque Nacional Montana de Celaque
  • Wednesday
    • Visit Comayagua
  • Thursday
    • Travel day to La Ceiba
  • Friday
    • Bay Islands
  • Saturday
    • Airport

This itinerary is VERY tentative. I still need to figure out:

  • A place to stay in Lago de Yojoa
  • How to get from Lago de Yojoa to Copan Ruins
  • How to get from Lago de Yojoa to the Parque Nacional Montana de Celaque
  • How to get from Lago de Yojoa to Comayagua
  • How to get from lago de Yojoa to La Cieba
  • A place to stay in La Cieba

If anyone has any tips or advice, please share! I’d really appreciate it.

How did you get tickets for $280? Who do you use? That is fantastic! Also, you can check out the Couchsurfing community for the Honduras information. I'm signed up, even if it is only to take people out for drinks and coffee when in Austin. :P

You're going to have so much fun!!

I found the tickets on Kayak.com. It was incredibly cheap so my friend and I immediately jumped on it. I originally planned to go to Barcelona but tickets were almost $700.

I didn't know there was a couchsurfing community! That's awesome! I'll definitely check it out. Any info about Honduras would be extremely useful. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the awesome tip Adriana! Hopefully I'll ace it the first time and won't have to spend another $250 to take it again.

    Hey Monica,

If you can try to skip staying the night in La Ceiba and just jump on the boat to either Roatan or Utila… La Ceiba is nice, but if you don't have to spend the night, don't bother… my humble opinion!

  • monica530

Thanks for the tip Brendan. I heard La Ceiba isn't the best place to stick around.
