Six Slick Ways To Stash Your Cash

Six Slick Ways To Stash Your Cash

I’m pretty low maintenance when I travel. No jewelry. No makeup. No comb. That’s right – no comb. I haven’t brushed my hair since junior high. No, that’s not nasty. I’m just lucky enough to have good hair. (Thanks Ma!) I also prefer tights, tunics and my slip on TOMS but there are a few things I always pack to stash my cash.

For the ladies, I’d recommend the following:

#1 Hair Roller

One hair roller kills two birds with one stone. To get rid of that dull, flat airplane hair, I slip a thin roller in the crown of my head under my hair, just like that ‘Bump It’ commercial. Make sure the roller isn’t too big otherwise you’ll pull a Snooki and turn it from classy to tacky. The hair roller also doubles as the perfect place to hide my money. I roll up a few large bills and use a bobby pin to clip it to the inside of the roller. Now, unless someone decides to clock you over the head, who’s going to think to rob you there?

#2 Padded Bras

I like a little umph in my hair but not always in my lady lumps. However, if I were going to put some umph in it, I’d umph it up with cash. Keep the important stuff close by removing the extra padding and replacing it with money. Try not to overstuff or you’ll attract unwanted attention.

#3 Pads

Whether or not Tom (Time of Month) drops in on you while you’re traveling, pads make the best dummy wallets. I prefer the ones with brightly covered wrappers. Open up the pad, slip in your cash, and reseal it with double sided tape – and wala! I don’t think any guy is going to want go anywhere near a neon pink pad.

For the gents, I’d recommend the following:

#4 Thermos

Buy a thermos that’s about the size of an average water bottle and tape your cash to the inside of it. Drop the water bottle in the middle and you’re pretty much set. Hand over your dummy wallet and hope the robber is stupid enough to just walk away.

#5 Guide book

Now, this is a dead giveaway that you’re from out of town but if you’re using a guide book you might as well just stash your cash in there. Tape it carefully to the inside back cover. You’ll always have it in your hands so you’ll always know where your money is. Just don’t be careless and leave it on a bench while you’re taking a break.

#6 Boxers

Hide your cash in your boxers but not just any regular boxers. These are boxers with a pocket sewed on the inside over the crotch area. Depending on how much cash you’re planning to stash in there, these stash boxers are available in small, medium, large and x-large.

What are other creative ways you use to stash your cash?

Great post! I love this– I totally do the Pad one. It’s a perfect dummy and the last place anything thinks to look. Only thing is I have constantly remind myself that I put money there.

Also, it’s wise never to put it all in one place. I used to put some in my sock. I rarely use my wallet. Wadded up with the lint in my front pocket is pretty hard to get at without my knowing. It’s the out and out mugging that gets tricky. I’ve read of full scale strippings in Mexico. Yikes. Almost as bad as TSA.

Great ideas, although the padded bra and pads won’t work very well for… that would be a whole different set of problems. It could creep out the would be thieves I suppose.

Hi Monica, I would put my money in my shoe sometimes. I don’t see how anybody could steal it from there.

These are great tips! I had to laugh when you said, “Bump It” commercial =) I like the inside pocket of my rain jacket for money and also the bra sometimes. Completely agree with Kevin that it’s best to stash it in a few places. I may be showing my age here, but does anyone remember the Roos shoes that used to have little zippered pockets in them? – Andrea

Fun post! I like your tips… who needs a fanny pack when you can stash money in your hair rollers? ;)

  • Anonymous

Exactly! Fanny packs scream “ROB ME!”

Roos shoes with pockets? I’ve never heard of them! At least not in the States…Lol

  • Anonymous

Haha…that seems like a good place to put your money but my friend who traveled to Brazil told me that he had to take off his shoes when some people tried to rob him.

  • Anonymous

ROFLS…yes, I’m pretty sure that would. I guess stashing them in your boxers would be the next closest thing.

Hahaha! That’s just plain awful! Had any bad experiences with the TSA yet?

  • Anonymous

Haha! Yea, that is true. Sometimes I forget I stashed it there but it’s an awesome feeling to find money in places you’ve forgotten about. It’s almost like magic! Haha!

When I was younger, I used to laugh at my mom since she would often place cash on her bra. But when i started to travel, I’ve learned ways to protect the little money that I have with me. I think I’ll give the hair rollers a try.

the safest way is to put the money(notes/credit cards) in a small type of soft cloth pouch and keep it down the front of your panties/bikini pants,or even use a small ziplock plastic bag instead! wear loose fitting skirts,(you’ll probably be wearing them anyway), easy-peesy, who’s going to know! need to access it then simply go to the bathroom! discreet and private, and very very safe, peace of mind to enjoy your holiday! tried and tested by me and my friends (girls that is!),works perfectley all the time, (had a fab holiday too!!!!).      good luck!!    cheeky sarah  x.

My grandma does this! Haha…she sows a secret pocket into every pair of pants she owns. I used to think she just didn’t want to bother carrying around a purse. But now I know better…lol.

  • Keeleytaylor54

down your panties!, it certainly is the best way to keep your money and valuables safe!, eh monica! i guess us girls all think alike, haha!!  “you don’t need to bother sewing a pocket in them though! as keeleytaylor54 explains, i use a small soft suede wallet that folds over at the top instead of having a clasp thing or a zip,i can get about 300 in note’s in it,my i.d. card and a couple of credit cards really easy , there’s not too much bulk with it when its full so it’s not noticeable when it’s down the front of my panties or bikini pants, especially when wearing a skirt!! “hehe!”  shorts are o.k. too! even jeans but nothing too tight fitting though! a slight bulge is hardly noticeable with jeans anyway so it’s never a problem, but do make sure make to check this before you go out, or get a friend to do it for you, a quick look over should do the trick!! Don’t wear thong’s or g-strings though, there’s not enough room in them for your money package and will make things very uncomfy down there! me and my gal pals all do this,no problem at all!!! we all have a great time, but most of all, complete peace of mind about our cash.  After all that’s what really matter’s is’nt it!!!  i hope this advice (from experience) helps other women travellers!   Good luck!!!!         from  tricky nikki !  x

  • Keeleytaylor54

monica!  i have’nt heard from you for a while!  how’s your, “ stashing money down your panties” Adventures gettin on!  STill reckon it’s the safest way to keep your dosh safe!!!!   (hehe, i certainly do!!)  i was in town day before yesterday,(my hometown that is, not on holiday)! And guess what! yep! my purse was pick-pocketed! not to worry though, cos my 300 hundred in notes was well safe down my pantie’s!!(haha!!!) i made sure of that before i left home!!……. Chop their rotten hands off i say!!   But then again, i had the last laugh after all !!… “i suppose”!!!!!   even bigger haha!!       hope to hear from you,(Soon i hope)!    see ya!!    all the best   keeleytaylor54  x

Great tips, I love the padded bra idea, I never thought of that one before.

  • Keeleytaylor54

tried the bra thing but found it uncomfy, plus you can never quite seem to conceal a money package very well in there! ( the outline of it always seems to show through!), (dam!) i never have any problems like that when i hide my money package down the front of my panties! very comfy and well concealed,so i would highly recommend this method instead! were have you been hiding your money, i can’t believe have’nt you tried this yet!!!     it really is foolproof!   i would love to hear from you. please reply!      good luck    keeleytaylor x
